Multi material on WF4

Postby AnCaLaGon » Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:21 am

Hi all :D

I work for an architectural project.

(first of all, sorry for my bad english)

I have some prbl with multi material on WF4.

Just for test :
On max 6, 1 sphere with 4 materials ( 1 multi/mat with 4 colors), export on VRML, add on WF = all is done perfectly
WF give me 1 object (my sphere) with 4 colors on it.

on max 6 with the same scene, I add a texture map on each diffuse slot.
So I have now a nice sphere with 4 textures on it.
export on VRML, add on WF = ARGHHHH
WF give me 4 objects (4 copies of my initial sphere :? ), each sphere have the correct material, but I have 4 sphere and not 4 pieces of the first sphere.
I want 4 pieces of sphere or 1 sphere with 4 materials on it

On WF, have 4 differents objects is not for me a problem but how to obtain this pieces ?

Why ? please explain me how to obtain a correct object on WF with multi textures. It's ok with 4 colors so...

thx in advance for all ur replies

I think you may be correct in that no one can understand the problem.

Can you post the original models and WF4 files somewhere that we can pick them up? and then we can look at the problem.

AnCaLaGon

There are two solutions to the problem

Create a single texture which is made up of four bands - one of each of the existing textures

Create a sphere which is made up of 4 separate objects and render each.

I have tried both methods and both work.

If you send me a private message with your e-mail - I will send you the four part sphere .wrl file - you can then alter the textures for each part of the square.

Of course if the sphere is divide into slices vertically you can do a beachball effect

this is the method than I use. (sphere scene was just a sample)

So if I want a house with differents maps on it, I must model it & cut it into several part of separated texture (each side of this house by example)

otherwise, create all in 2d and map directly

thx a lot sam

If you are working on an architectural project then you should be using one of the architectural CAD packages such as 'microstation', 'architectural desktop' or 'autocad'.

You can then asign each wall to a different layer or colour and then when you export to .vrml (directly or via another package); each layer or colour can become a separate object.

Unfortunately without knowing which software you are using, it is impossible to advise the best method............

In fact sam I'm working on an architectural simple project ( only exterior with ground & road infrastruture)

All model was made on max6.

good tip for me = each colour become a separate object
I'll try it.

thx

Hi

I checked your sphere files and all I can add is that the VRML file don't contain information to recreate the multi-texture effect. The multi-colors work because the file specifies colorvertices, but the multi texture file contain the specification of 4 complete textured spheres...
