Applying Textures in WF

Postby MASSinfo » Thu Dec 02, 2004 5:21 am

Hello all,
i need a jumpstart for a presentation Friday and here is what i have so far...
I have built a 3D room in SketchUp with colours and textures applied to various boxes and room dividers, the entire model was then exported as VRML, then added into a new WF project as a 3D world object. Some of the colours remained intact but all the texture maps have been dropped.

Here is my question: What is the most straightforward way to add textures to individual objects in the 3D world model in WireFusion?

Do i need to import textures and save them as .mtl files before i can use them?
Also, i am using the Professional version of WF so can i add models one at a time into a 3D scene and position them in WF or do i need to build everything in SketchUp and import the completed scene as a .wrl file (which is how i have done it so far)?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Mike, you should be able to use any .jpg, .gif or .png file as a texture. Make sure that the textures you exported from SketchUp appear in the same directory as the vrml file when you import it into WF. Also, you may need to confirm that every object to which you wish to apply a texture in WF is given a texture (not just a color) prior to export. If not, some applications fail to export information which WF needs to apply textures later.

When designing in WF you can, of course, apply or change textures to any object (note exception above) in the imported 3d scene. I do not know of a way to add objects individually (that is, to add objects from more than one vrml file to a single 3d scene) without using the 3d API, which is only available in WF Enterprise.
